Field Report 2010

SPC (Salmon Pond Club) 1st 2010 Field Report
NYS Big Game Season (Sat. Oct. 23rd & 24th 2010)

Hello to all:
This is the 1st “Field Report” of the 2010 season. This year the season started Saturday October 23rd.

Head Count
We had only 12 men in camp on opening day (9 hunters, 2 cooks, and one reporter). This was a low number, two of our better hunters were not able to make it, Steve Green & Bob Cunningham, when they see the picture of what was on the ground opening day, I’m sure there will be tears in their eyes.

Sightings & Harvest
Kenny Baker saw 5 doe on his way in Thursday morning, they were between the state Gate and Matt Briscoe’s cabin (formally John Potter’s cabin). Dave Capron saw the tail end of a deer crossing the road at the bridge above camp Friday afternoon. As of 11:00 am on Sunday no deer had been seen. As my daughter puts it the deer are winning.

Meals
Peter Aust can cook! He and his assistant John Corcoran fed us very well. Saturday evening we had stuffed pork roast, home made apple sauce, sweet potato casserole & peas & carrots. The home made apple pie, that they down loaded the receipt Saturday afternoon, was one of the best I have had at camp. Saturdays’ lunch was “Sloppy Joes” and minestrone soup. The chicken nuggets, which were added to the ordure’s, also went real well. Thanks Peter and John. We tried to get Peter to give up his new position as President and CEO the Adirondack Chamber of Commerce to cook permanently for us, but our proposal just wasn’t enough.

Poker Action
Uncle Dick did it again with Scratch-Offs and poker on Thursday and Friday night. I also did well on Thursday night. The game “four forty four”, which Kenny Baker introduced, was a favorite.

Weather
As you will see in the picture, we could not have had a more perfect opening day, 2” or fresh snow on the ground.

New Tricks & Games Learned
During our group discussion’s we determined that if you want to learn new tricks and games just try following our current political races, local, State & Federal.

News & Info
We were able to calculate the amount of gallons in our hot water tank after using two I-Phones as tools. Identifying animal sounds off of my I-Phone kept us entertained for a short time. We did also identify the top (five star) egg supplier in NYS and the top quick stop store in NYS. This information can be obtained by asking a member that was at the Saturday night discussion group (Fire Side Chat).

2nd week’s cook: Matt Hoskins (638-6265) please give Matt a call by Wednesday night (10-27-10) to let them know if you plan on being in camp.

Enjoy and Keep Safe

Hello to all:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Head Count
There were 17 men in camp (15 hunters & 2 cooks).

Sightings & Harvest
As Lisa puts it, the deer are still winning. Steve Greene saw a couple of doe. I gutted out two pumpkins today. :>)

Meals
Matt Hoskins and his assistant Jim Hughes (SPC VP and Ex President) fed the “Sports” very well. Saturday evening’s meal was a very tender top round roast along with mashed potatos, dark gravy, corn and home made rolls. Matt’s home made apple crumb pie and upside down pinapple cake went over very well. Saturdays’ lunch was grilled ham & cheese sandwiches on home made bread with SPC soup (tomato and macaroni). Sundays’ lunch was Ziti.  Thanks Matt and Jim.
